Volvo Aims For Zero Auto Fatalities In Sacramento By 2014

Volvo has set a safety goal to be reached by 2014: to bring the number of fatalities and serious injuries in new Volvo cars down to zero. To this end they have revealed a number of new features they're developing, starting with the Volvo XC90.

When it was introduced it 2002, it had a world-first solution for preventing rollover accidents. Twelve years later, the 2014 will have a day and night detection system that alerts drivers to pedestrians, animals, or other cars they are about to encounter and then automatically applies the brakes, avoiding a collision.

Another world first detection system expected to be available in the Volvo XC90 will recognize
the physical properties of the  road and should the driver be about to veer off, will apply extra torque and steer it back onto the pavement.

There are more safety innovations Volvo is working on to meet its goals so if you want a sneak peak, Yahoo Financial News can tell you all about it.
