Volvo vs Kangaroo

Drive across the United States and you'll see plenty of deer crossing warning signs at the side of the road. Head north to states like Vermont and Washington and you'll see moose crossing signs. In Australia you'll be warned too. But their signs feature a hopping  kangaroo. No, this is no down under joke. Insurance statistics show that 20,000 car - kangaroo collisions occur there each year.

Kangaroo radar

Volvo, a leader in automotive safety, has been working to cut down on these incidents. Engineers are developing a kangaroo detecting radar system. They've installed radar sensors in test car grills to detect initial motion and a camera in the windshield to determine what is moving, and should it be a kangaroo, the Volvo will slam on the brakes if the driver doesn't. This technology will be especially helpful for us in Sacramento considering all the the deer we have in the area.
