Volvo on Power and Performance

Volvo Turns it Up

The 2013 Volvo S60 Polestar surpasses all expectations of Volvo lovers — at least those who have the need for a racy, fast car. The S60 Polestar debuted in Sweden, and the first one in the United States showed up about six hours away from Sacramento — in Los Angeles.

The S60 Polestar features a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo charged engine that puts out 508 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 424 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 rpm. The power is transferred to the all-wheel-drive drive-train via a six-speed manual Getrag M66C transmission. So you won’t spin the tires too much — unless you’re going for a burnout — Volvo equipped this model with Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 265/30R-19 tires. For those not familiar with tire sizes, the rims are 19 inches.

For stopping power, Volvo equipped the S60 with six-piston Brembo calipers and 15-inch front disc brakes. Because this model is designed to race, the suspension includes upgrades such as racing-style rod ends on the control arms, stiffer springs and sway bars, or as Volvo calls them, anti-roll bars. The suspension gives you a smooth ride, yet allows you to get the most out of the S60 in cornering.
